Worldbuilding: Kittypets
In my rewrite, Kittypets are not seen as regular cats, like clan cats or even loners and rogues. They are seen as distinctly non-cat.
They are seen as Fae. The cats, of course, dont know the human word for Fae, but the concept is the same.
Kittypets are considered tricksters by all the clans, some more than others, and those connected to kittypets are untrusted.
The reason why is a few different things.
-If you give them your name, they will replace it ("Oakface is a silly name, i'll just calk you Oak")
-if you spend too long around them, you'll lose your clan name entirely, and if you try return to your clan, you'll never behave the same.
-if you lie to them, every other kittypet will know (and some will hunt you for it)
-if you break a promise, you will be cursed
Over the years, this idea has skewed from generation to generation. As of Arc 1, the cats believe Kittypets have magic, and can do various things, like talking to or commanding dogs, embuing flowers or herbs with powers, and, in some cases, can even curse other cats with misfortune or death.
Fireheart never disputes these claims, Cloudtail actively plays into them, and Scourge unintentionally confirmed the promise one after killing Tigerstar (because he broke an agreement)

Okay, y'all, hear me out. Warrior cats, but instead of Firestar being a ginger tabby, he was a black maine coon?
Before I get accused of being so woke that I blackwashed a cat, let me explain how my silly little thought process works.
So Spottedleaf gets the whole "fire alone will save our clan" prophecy, but when Bluestar meets Rusty after the scrap with Greypaw, it's as if she already knew that HE was the fire that they needed just because of his coat colour.
Now, Bluestar herself got a prophecy saying that she would burn through the forest like fire. Why wouldn't she go a while completely convinced that SHE was the fire of the prophecy?
Now about Rusty's fur being black instead of ginger, black cats have something called "rusting". This is when the cat spends so much time in the sun that their fur becomes a golden-brown colour in certain areas. Rusty would've spent a lot of time outside in the sun since he's an outdoor cat, so his fur would've rusted and that inspired his owner to give him the name Rusty.
So Bluestar thinks that she's the fire that will save the clans. She meets a tiny kittypet interested in joining the clan. Whatever, she thinks. We need more warriors anyway. Completely nonchalant about Rusty's existence until he wins the fight against Longtail. He stands there in the midday sun, and his pitch black fur lights up as if he were made of fire himself. He is Firepaw. He is the fire that will save ThunderClan.
Instead of easily exposing to the reader that this fire coloured cat is the fire from the prophecy (omg who couldve guessed mind blown!!1!!1) there could be just a bit of doubt about it, because Rusty doesn't look like a fire at all. But then the light hits his fur at just the right angle and everyone can put two and two together to get a more interesting conclusion.
But why a maine coon? Why not just have him he a regular black cat? Because maine coons are GIGANTIC. At least compared to the average cat. Imagine Firepaw getting picked on because he's the smallest kit in the apprentice den, and then one winter later, boom! The bitch easily towers over Tigerclaw, a regular mackerel tabby, once one of the largest toms on their side of the forest. I just find the idea of Firestar being much larger than Tigerstar very funny. Imagine bullying an actual baby because he can't kill snakes with his bare hands and then he's suddenly 6'9 and has to bend down to talk to you.
Not to mention that maine coons have a slightly feral look about them, with their wild eyes and tufted ears. We hardly got any conflict of Rusty being an outcast amongst the kittypets for being a bit too feral. It would've been a beautiful opportunity to truly explore the cultural differences between clan cats and kittypets.
TLDR; Firestar from Warrior Cats should legally be allowed to say the n word and the Erins should hire me as a ghostwriter :3

routine medical care
Cats over six moons in the Clans are expected to visit their medic at least every two moons for a checkup; medics will preform a TPR, give a nose-to-tail physical, and have a general conversation about their physical and mental health (a fuzzy field even in the modern Clans, but they still chat). Naturally, kits, queens, and elders are given checkups more often- kits daily until their third moon.
The basics of daily health for a warrior are their coat, claws, teeth, and internal parasites.
Claws are simple enough. Marking is most often done close to camp by scoring trees and roots with their claws (much more appropriate than spraying). They keep their nails tidy by nipping off their claw sheathes (something considered fairly intimate if done by another cat), and each Clan has a specific tincture to keep coats and nails strong and shiny, generally a combination of nettles and horsetail. Flaky or soft nails are common in lean or harsh seasons from malnutrition, and a bad sign.
Teeth care is also routine, with bones and skin helping keep them clean. Valerian is chewed in RiverClan for fresh breath. Toothaches will inevitably appear as a cat ages, but severe pain or inflammation is very dangerous and usually fatal. Hairballs are normal for most of the Clans and disposed of.
A poorly maintained coat is an extreme symptom for a Clan cat. They spend most of their relaxation time grooming themselves and others, and mats and tangles are signs of extreme neglect, both from themselves and the rest of their Clan. RiverClan swim daily, and ShadowClan will use the shallow creek running through their camp to keep their paws and muzzles free of sap or mud. WindClan keep a thick layer of dust on their coats while patrolling or lounging to prevent sunburn and keep them cool.
Parasites are a fact of life for feral cats. Every warrior consumes fern stems, barberry, and black walnut monthly to help prevent and treat many internal parasites. Most cats are adept at twisting off ticks and cracking them, removing them from camp. Changing bedding so often is part of flea prevention. Sageleaf of ShadowClan recently discovered a new treatment for ear mites- rotten crabapples fallen from their trees produce a sharp-smelling liquid when squished that at least soothe mite infestations when applied.
Medics hands are full most of the time simply tending to daily healthcare.

Sparrow/White Family Tree - Mick’s Rewrite
for the sake of de-cluttering the family tree:
cinderlion only have their first litter
sorrelstripe’s mate is undisclosed
speckletail and whitefog/one-eye are no longer sisters
larksong is now stormcloud’s kit- his other parent is undisclosed
other misc. notes:
jayfeather has been moved to a different tree
sandstorm is now spsrrowpelt (halftail) and whitefog’s youngest daughter
longtail and runningwind had a budding interest in one another but runningwind was murdered before it could blossom
longtail and mousefur bonded over the loss of runningwind and even further when they were in the elder’s den. longtail would admit he may have felt romsntic feelings towards her while mousefur kept her perspective under lock and key. nobody knows how she really feels about longtail, but regardless of what it was she cared deeply for him
longtail is intersex and uses he/him pronouns. in a human-esque culture he would identify as nonbinary.
fernsong uses he/him and she/her pronoun. in a human-esque culture she would identify as bigender
sparrowpelt snd his kits carry the cinnamon gene. this also carries on through sandstorm -> leafpool -> lionblaze, skips sorrelstripe and hollytuft (chocolate) and returns with bayshine + myrtlebloom
cinderheart is a cryptic tortie, hence fernsong’s vibrant golden-cream color
lion and holly (both)’s manes are important to their designs so theyre drawn with them.

I've realized what one of the flaws in the series is now that's a more subtle flaw.
Aside from Purdy... No one has a "way of speaking". Everyone sounds the same. So much formal speak is used now, and mind you with cats in leader positions I imagine there would be an expectation of sorts, I can't imagine Mistystar accepting anything less than PERFECT grammar.
But a cat like Graystripe? He'd love weird contraction words! Man says "y'ain't" unironically!
Dovewing using big words and long complex phrases until she leaves Thunderclan and challenges herself to use as few words as possible for a while to break the habit...
Hollyleaf The Nerd accidentally taught her the habit in the first place, mind. Get a chair and some water when Holly gives a speech, you'll be there for a while.
Jayfeather on the other hand? Learn to speak grunt.
Lionblaze picks up mannerisms from EVERYONE. Slang from Daisy and Berrynose, a little "y'know?" From Cinderheart, and you can catch him say "um" the same way Leafpool does from his brief time as Cleric apprentice.
Squirrelflight would often speak too quickly so sometimesshetalkslikethis...
Hmm... Bit hard to read.
I'll-write-it-like-this! Squirrelflight!
Skybranch (Twigbranch) stumbles over words and tries to pick them as carefully as possible. A-uh A lot of the time, she'll kinda talk like this? I think, uh, I think that's good. Right? Yeah. Should be okay.
Where cats like, say, the aforementioned Mistystar, take a very high-class tone. A cat like Mistystar would not lower herself to using foul language, like the Thunderclan warrior, Spotfur. There would simply be no need for it.
And Spotfur thinks that that's badger bullocks! Swears express your passion, dammit!
But... Yeah. The way people speak and talk, tells you a LOT about them.

Honestly, my current favorite idea for the Windclan coup attempt by Mudclaw in my rewrite, is that it would have almost certainly worked if it wasn't for plain opportunism.
Like, Mudclaw's followers were loyal to him, he was a spry aggressive deputy to contrast Tallstar's more passive nature, and that earned him plenty of loyalty, particularly when he was fighting against Shadowclan tooth and claw when Windclan was getting expelled.
So by all right, the announcement that Tall changed his mind last second and made Onewhisker deputy (which was his own decision here, not Starclan's) in private and corroborated by only the Thunderclan leader, a coup should have been a cakewalk for Mud.
Walk into the leaders den, make Onewhisker say that he lied, and reclaim leadership. No one actually thinks fucking Onewhisker would be a good leader, so very limited opposition. Hell, Mud may not have even been planning on killing One, just chase him off the territory.
The only problem was, Onewhisker was related to quite a few cats. And those relatives realized that they were now not only related to the leader, but it was timid, yes-man, 'does what you say if you say it firm enough' Onewhisker. So when Mud goes and tries to question the story and intimidate One, he finds voices of opposition, Cats going to Onestar's defense, much firmer ones.
Basically, Mudclaw was defeated by the power of opportunism and promises of Cronyism/nepotism.
And also Thunderclan, no way in hell was Fire going to let this much of an opportunity just slip by.
Suffice to say, that imposter syndrome was hitting Onestar hard due to knowing just how he lived past that night.

Starting Allegiances
these are what the allegiances look like for the day rusty meets graypaw, bluestar, and lionheart for the first time!
i stayed up until 5am finishing this last night, because not only did i do research looking for every single cat that was or could have been alive at the time, but i also wanted to put them in age order (the only exception for this is boulder, who he and russetfur joined shadowclan while wolfstep and foxheart were apprentices, and while russetfur is younger than wolfstep, boulder is actually more about ashheart, newtspeck, and frogtail's age)
i'm not doing "books" exactly, they'll be more in like "parts" or "acts," so every time a major point in the story ends will be when i update the allegiances! the next allegiance update will be after brokenstar and his followers are ran out of shadowclan and windclan returns

Leaders can choose which life they want to lose in order. The will experience something related to that cat's death or, rarely, have a talk with them. When the leader dies, they go into a misty, swirling meadow, surrounded by the cats who gave them their lives.
Pinestar chose Harepounce first, wanting to brave it. He felt the aching in her stomach, but also the intense love for her daughter, Whitekit. It is a looming feeling, especially when he first eats kibble, his belly full while other cats go hungry that night.
Bluestar chose Mosskit last, and instead of feeling the winter's chill, she felt nothing but safety and love, the snow becoming a blanket to settle into. Mosskit allowed her to spend her last moments lucid, seeing all of her children on the bank as she passed.
Crookedstar chose Appleshine for his first, and felt the intense pain she had felt as she died, and the pain gave him determination to keep going during a battle with Thunderclan. (Guess what they were fighting over!)
Tallstar's second to last life was lost after the Bloodclan battle, he chose Dawnstripe's life. She showed him the thrill of the battle she had passed away in, but that while sometimes fighting for something is necessary, it isn't always the only option. It sticks hard with him.
Brokenstar picked Sagewhisker to get rid of it first, he felt the intense pain of the heart attack that killed her, from that point on he made other cats fight his battles more, wanting to hold onto his lives.
Leopardstar's final life was with Brightsky, who she had been avoiding. She watched her mother's life slip away, and the heartbreak that her mother had felt seeing that 2 of her children had been born sleeping. She realized as the world faded to cold darkness that she'd made a mistake.
Losing all his lives at once, Tigerstar had begged each of them to save him, one by one. But they could not, even if they wanted to. The last lost was the tiny warrior, Olivetail, showing her death was at the claws of his own ancestor, Gorsestar, in the same way he himself bleeds out now.
Firestar choses Swiftclaw first to get that over with. It is agonizing pain but all the Might of Lionclan in his bones keeps him going and fighting even when the literal jaws of death clamp down. He remembers Swiftclaw, and all the young cats he is fighting for when he comes back to the living world.
Blackstar chooses to lose the life Blizzardwing gives him, wanting to be rid of it as fast as possible. He feels sickness claw at him, and rage at an unfulfilled life full of regrets. It's... sobering, especially when he just lost the life due to a branch falling on him.
Leafstar choses Dawnstar (who gives a life for Selflessness) during Skyclan's Destiny to see if she is doing the right thing by helping the rogues. It is calm and cold and quiet, her lungs feel tight but she can feel guilt baring down on her as she watches herself through Dawnstar's eyes denying herself catmint to make sure the other cats can live through the greencough epidemic, seeing a Starclan cat looming over a kitten, knowing he will be a heroic leader.
Onestar's final life was Brushclaw, who didn't show him his death, but only talked about how disappointed he was. He gave Onestar a life for friendship, and Onestar chose to isolate himself afterwards, acting unfriendly towards even his own clanmates.
Mistystar's first life was Crookedstar, and she spoke with him about what happened to Leopardstar, and if she was a bad cat for it. He gives her reassuring words, and tells her that he is proud if her.
Bramblestar's first life lost is for Longtail, he feels the terror as he loses his sight, reliving Longtail's last moments before the tree crashes down, all he can think of is the last though in Longtail's head: I can't let prey go to waste, I'm sorry Poppydawn. It rattles him completely.
Rowanstar chooses Cedarheart during a Yellowcough life loss, who fought with all his might to protect the Riverclan nursery, dying for them just as the retreat order was called. It fills him with vigor and strength.
As Harestar lays dying of Blackcough, he picks Barkface. They talk, and Barkface confirms that, no, he will not recover from this. But not to lose hope, for Windclan's future is still bright, have faith. As he gazes over at Breezepelt, he feels a glimmer of hope.
Tigerstar's second life lost after Rowanstar was Flametail, he missed his brother too much to save it for later. The water made him afraid, but when he saw how Jayfeather had tried to SAVE his brother, he personally traveled to Thunderclan and invited Jayfeather to a feast, re-building a bridge that had been hanging in threads.

Mothpaw
Moth - Mothpaw
Kit - Healer Apprentice
Rogue - Riverclan
Mentor: Mudfur
Apprentices: N/A
Mother: Sasha
Brother: Hawkpaw
Moth and Hawk were taken into Riverclan the moon after the Battle of Bloodclan. They were given to the clan when they were still kits, by their mother, who chose to leave after revealing a secret that the cats of Riverclan have decided to keep to themselves. Mudfur was looking for an apprentice at the time, so when he received an omen of a moth's wing (a specifically special sign for healers, although why that is is lost knowledge) Moth was chosen to become his apprentice. Mothpaw was a great fit for the role, and seemed to enjoy it.
